The video mixing is surprisingly advanced, with visual effects, titles and image overlays, visualizers, HD video recording and video output over all sorts of protocols. In fact, blending the best of touch and desktop controls is probably a pretty good way to go. The app is built to integrate with Apple’s Smart Keyboard and has over 70 keyboard shortcuts available, which is surely an admission at last that touchscreens aren’t complete replacements for physical keyboards. There’s the facility to do video mixing as well and on iPad Pro you can apparently mix two streams of 4K video – if you can find any 4K video to stream, that is. Live sampling is available as are drum pads and FX racks, though some effects appear to be part of an in-app purchase which is always a bit of a niggle. There’s Spotify integration, four playback decks and hi-def waveforms a bit like you get in Traktor for iPad, though not identical of course. Rebuilding the app just for iPad lets Algoriddim do some clever stuff.
